The Role of Public Relations After Bombing Incident at Ritz Calton and J.W Mariott Hotel (Descriptive Study PT. Java Festival Production in Java Rockin’land 2009 Event)

This research uncovers the role of PT. Java Festival Production’s Public Relations when holding an international rock music festival called Gudang Garam Internasional Java Rockin’land 2009. This festival took place along three days at Pantai Karnaval Ancol, Jakarta. Three weeks before the event, a bombing incident occurred at Ritz Carlton and J.W Mariott hotel. As a result, the highly anticipated match between the notorious soccer team Manchester United and the Indonesian national team were cancelled. At the same time, Australia also released a travel warning against Indonesia. This was a major setback for PT. Java Festival Production in organizing Java Rockin’land 2009 event. This research is to observe the strategies of PT. Java Festival Production’s Public Relations in tackling this issue. The research method that used in this research was descriptive qualitative and the analyzing technique that been used in this research was 6 stages of PR. The conclusion drawn here is that the Public Relations along with the rest of PT. Java Festival Production has succeeded in exercising the functions of PR towards a company’s external, using social media network as a media to inform, and the company already has a great relationship with the media. So, based on it evaluation, Java Rockin’land 2009 was so successful that it even topped the organizer’s initial target. None of the musicians cancelled the contract, all of the sponsors continued their support, and the security at the event was did a great job to secure the location.
