On Thursday, November 28th 2013, Research Centre conduct an interesting afternoon discussion with R. Kristiawan. He works at Tifa Foundation as Media & Information Program Manager, and also an author of a book titled “Penumpang Gelap Demokrasi, Sebuah Kajian Liberalisasi Media di Indonesia”. The book itself is based on his research while doing the Master thesis at UI.
The session, attended by lecturers and students, discussed about how structural power in media now is shifting from political to economical domination, which in turns, affected media’s mode of production and consumption. As in Indonesia, who will faced the general election in 2014, there are some challenges rise in the context of information and content distributed by the media, especially media owned by person who has political affiliation.
