ABSTRACT
The purpose of this study is to provide an understanding of the interaction adaptation between deaf teachers and student hears, in learning activities to teach bisindo at Pusbisindo, Jakarta. The problems studied: 1) How do requirements, expectations, and desires in the interaction adaptation between deaf teachers and student hears, in the teaching activities of bisindo at Pusbisindo? 2) How does the pattern of interaction between deaf teachers and student hears based on the position of interaction and actual behavior, which is found in the teaching activities of bisindo at Pusbisindo? The author uses the Judee Burgoon Interaction Adaptation Theory. This theory provides a more comprehensive explanation of interpersonal adaptation and dyadic interaction processes with an emphasis on individual biological and sociological influences. There are nine guiding principles and five basic concepts in this theory. The method used is qualitative with triangulation: interviews, observation, and documentation. The results of the study show (1) that between teachers are deaf and students hear there is a common need, namely to be able to communicate with deaf people (requirements); (2) there is a pattern of interaction when teaching and learning activities can take place (hope); and (3) both deaf and pupil teachers hear that they have something in common to understand wants (desires). Meanwhile, the position of interactions and actual behavior related to requirements, expectations and desires shows that what is needed is more attention than expected or desired.
